Lara Liew

Lara was one of the original cast of Mary Jane O’Reilly’s neo-burlesque show, In Flagrante, and dances regularly with her own company, DYNAMOTION. Working with Thomas Sainsbury, Lara has created and produced six full-length narrative dance shows and DYNAMOTION has gained a large and loyal following in Auckland.


She has choreographed contemporary water ballerinas, The Wet Hot Beauties, since 2012 with her debut show, Swan Song, winning the People's Choice award at the Auckland Fringe Festival 2013. Her beach tour series, Wipe Out, won a Spirit of the Fringe award in 2015 and her latest show, Sea Change, enjoyed sell-out success as part of the Auckland Fringe Festival and Auckland Pride Festival in February this year.

She was the Director of Movement for ATC's 2014 season of Jesus Christ Superstar as well as Choreographer for The Basement Christmas show, Jesus II, in 2015, for which she was also on the devising team.


Lara has choreographed dance sequences for both Shortland Street and Westside season 2 and is a choreographer for the Farmer's Santa Parade. She was the Movement Director for The Effect (dir. Benjamin Henson) performed at the Q Loft in 2017. Lara was also responsible for the collaborative performance series, Stranger Things, creating 24 unlikely artistic pairings over 4 seasons at the Basement theatre between 2009 and 2011.
